June 21, 2005 -- I checked several major engines for phrases that related to the Aston Waikiki like "we stayed at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel". I found 25 real appraisals -- 19 people approved of the Aston Waikiki while 6 disapproved of the hotel.

• 12 because the hotel is right on the beach with easy access to many attractions around the island, including the zoo, Pearl Harbor, and various shops
• 14 found the breakfast on the beach was a great idea, the hotel even provides a lunchbox
• 5 liked it because the hotel restaraunt was excellent and had tofu and stir fry to cater to vegetarians
• 10 because the staff was very friendly - one man tipped his maid because she cleaned so well
• 12 liked it because the view of the beach and Diamondhead was beautiful
• 3 people said they liked the pool

• 1 because the parking was expensive at $30 a day (this is for valet, but reviewers said there was nowhere else to park)

• 3 because the rooms were dirty and had an odor - one couple said they were attacked by fleas when they opened the door

My thoughts
There were mixed reviews on Aston Waikiki depending on which part of the hotel you stayed in. The main part of the hotel which is closest to the beach is renovated with alot of great views while the Mauka Tower is reported to be unrenovated, outdated, and not very clean. Many of people who were put in the Mauka Tower bought their rooms at a discount rate even though they were still shown pictures of the renovated portions of the hotel. Buyer beware! If you buy at a discount rate you may get a discount room!
